Course Info

Certificate Course in Common Mental Disorders (CCCMD) is a joint program conceptualised, developed and implemented by Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) in collaboration with Association of Healthcare Providers (India) (AHPI). In this unique program, PHFI is acting as an implementing partner and AHPI as strategic partner in the field of common mental disorders in India.

The primary objective of the program is to enhance the knowledge, skills & core competencies of primary care physicians in the identification & management of common mental disorders with following secondary objectives –

  • To develop/update a standard teaching protocol and module for evidence based learning on common mental disorders
  • To build a network of primary care physicians and specialists in the field of mental disorders
  • To regularly update the primary care physicians with the latest advancements in the field of common mental disorder

Teaching and Training Methodology

The course utilizes a variety of teaching and learning techniques. The course will be offered on modular basis with judicious mix of case-studies, interim assignments, group discussion, role plays and online sessions with pre-test & post-test along with great flexibility to accommodate participants’ queries. Complete and comprehensive learning package including printed and soft copies of modules will be provided to the enrolled participants by organizing institutions. The course content will be delivered by the renowned faculty. The course will be administered at 8 centres i.e. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai

Eligibility Criteria

  • Physicians/Internal medicine specialist/Family medicine specialists
  • Primary care physicians with at least 3 years of clinical experience

Certification Criteria

Participant assessment will be done through continuous internal evaluation, course work and performance in written examination. The criteria for successful completion of the program shall be as follows:

  • Participation in all 6 virtual sessions (including the pre-test and post- test of each module)
  • Completion and submission of assigned course work (two descriptive assignments at regular intervals)
  • Appearance and clearance of final written examination in the form of 50 MCQs in an hour (Min. 50% score required to clear the examination)

The participants completing the program successfully will receive the certificate of completion jointly issued by PHFI, AHPI and respective faculty.

Course Content

Certificate Course in Common Mental Disorders is a Six modular course. The whole curriculum will contain the following broad topics –

Module 1 Introduction to Common Mental Disorders and Principles of Mental Health Care
Module 2 Depression and Suicide Prevention
Module 3 Anxiety and Psychosomatic Disorders
Module 4 Neurocognitive Disorders and Psychosis
Module 5 Alcohol and Other Substance Use Disorders
Module 6 Childhood Mental and Behavioural Disorders and Epilepsy

Dr Pushkar Kumar is a Physician and has over 16 years of experience in the area of public health having served in the Government, NGO and private sector. He is working with PHFI as a Sr. Public Health Specialist & heads the Training Division which is working for capacity building initiatives for Primary Care Physicians (PCPs) & Healthcare professionals in clinical conditions and various public health domains for the last six years which has trained more than 36,000 healthcare professionals across the country.

He looks after training of the Primary Care Physicians & Health care professionals in the field of diabetes, GDM, COPD & Asthma, Thyroid disorders, Women’s Health, Mental Health, Palliative Care, Geriatric Care, Obesity management, Healthcare quality, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Medicolegal ethics, Patient safety, Cybersecurity in healthcare, Healthcare Technology and MDPs in Health programme management and other initiatives including research. He is responsible for establishing & maintaining strategic partnerships with the Central & State Governments, PSU and International collaborations for these initiatives.
He has worked for more than 9 years in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare as Lead Consultant in Maternal Health and Sr. Technical Officer and Programme Officer in the Blood Safety Division at NACO. He has worked in all aspects of policy, planning, programme implementation, health system strengthening, capacity building, supporting State Governments and been a part of over 30 Policy and operational guidelines of Govt. of India. He has also managed the blood transfusion services in a tertiary care hospital at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.

    Dilip Jha, did his MPhil in Hospital and Health Systems Management from BITS, Pilani and holds MSc degree in Anthropology from Delhi University. He was awarded Fellowship in Leadership and Implementation Sciences to address NCDs in India (PH-Leader) jointly delivered by PHFI, Emory University and INSP Mexico under NIH grant. He has worked on a wide spectrum of issues related to public health and health systems development for the past 20 years funded by WHO, World Bank, UNDP, MoHFW and State Governments. He has conducted a large randomised controlled trial - mWellcare Trial (Wellcome Trust funded) to develop, evaluate and upscale an mHealth solution for integrated management of chronic conditions in India. He is a guest faculty in communication at Jamia Millia Islamia University.

      Dr. Vats graduated from C.C.S. University in Physiotherapy and has two years of clinical experience as an Assistant Physiotherapist in Narender Mohan Hospital and Heart Institute, Hindu Rao Hospital & Maharaja Agarsen Hospital, New Delhi. She worked as a Health consultant with Apollo Hospital in their Corporate & School Health Plan, an offshoot of the Apollo’s Wellness wing. She completed her post-graduation in Healthcare & Hospital management, with a specialization in healthcare management from IIHMR, New Delhi. She has worked as a Consultant with MOHFW, GOI, in the department of Program Implementation and Planning,
      NRHM.

        Mr. Koundal holds a PG Diploma in Public Health Services Management and a Post Graduate in Clinical Microbiology. He is having more than 6 years of experience in capacity building program for Primary Care Physicians, which includes Certificate Course in Management of Thyroid Disorders (CCMTD), Certificate Course in Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (CCCS), Certificate Course in Management of Hypertension (CCMH), Occupational Health Program, Certificate Course in Disaster Management (CCDM), E-workshop series on COVID-19 for Indian and International Healthcare Professionals, WHO project for Development of IMNCi digital package for e-learning by health workers. He is working as Program Officer in Certificate Course in Common Mental Disorders (CCCMD).

She has her dissertation on mental health during post graduation. Currently she is working as senior program assistant with Public Health foundation of India. She has worked as a dentist for 2 years in dental clinic and has also interned for Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab in COVID and Immunization department.             Mr. Ankit Gusain is working with PHFI as Sr. Program Assistant and has done his masters in Operations Management, he is working with CCCMD program.
